Advancing its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender Equality, the UA Management actively participated in the "Seminar-Workshop on Integrating Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG) into Institutional Projects, Activities, and Programs" held on November 16-17, 2023, at Ichthus Resort, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.

Hosted by the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, this initiative aimed to equip UA personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively integrate gender considerations into all aspects of institutional operations.

The two-day seminar-workshop featured valuable insights from an expert resource person, Ms. Arlene Pascual, a member of the National GAD Resource Pool and an official of Bataan Peninsula State University. Ms. Pascual's comprehensive sessions covered key topics such as fundamental GAD concepts, gender stereotypes, sexual orientations, gender identities, expressions, and biases. Additionally, she delved into the practical application of HGDG, including Project ID and Design, Gender Analysis, and HGDG PIMME Pullout.

This insightful workshop provided UA Management with a deeper understanding of gender equality principles and practical tools for their implementation. Deans from UA’s different campuses and colleges expressed their appreciation for the program, highlighting the critical role of integrating GAD into institutional policies, programs, and daily practices.

The commitment to SDG 5 manifested through the UA Management's participation in this seminar-workshop marks a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and equitable environment within the institution. This proactive approach demonstrates UA's unwavering dedication to fostering a culture that embraces diversity, celebrates differences, and empowers all individuals to reach their full potential.

As UA continues to implement the knowledge gained from this seminar-workshop, the institution paves the way for a future where gender equality is not just a goal, but a lived reality. Source: Patrick A. Benedito - Assistant Training Coordinator, Gender and Development Office
