In a dedicated effort to address the pressing concerns on rabies and other animal health threats, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the University of Abra (UA), LGU-Lagangilang, and the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA)-CAR Chapter was sealed at the FFP Hall, UA Main Campus, Lagangilang, Abra on November 28, 2023.
The MOA were signed by Dr. Gregorio T. Turqueza Jr., UA President, Hon. Rovelyn E. Villamor, Mayor of the Municipality of Lagangilang, and Dr. Lesley C. Deligen, PVMA-CAR Chapter President. It was witnessed by Dr. Talugay G. Patagao, Program Coordinator and a faculty from the UA Animal Science Department, and Hon. Paul Joseph Abaya, DVM, Vice-Mayor of Lagangilang.
Highlight of the event includes all parties expressing their willingness and commitment to share technical and veterinary resources protecting local pets, poultry, and livestock, as well as owners and raisers. Each agency was inspired by their common objectives and agreed to become partners in ensuring the success of the project.
Also present at the ceremonial signing were Dr. Noel B. Begnalen, UA Vice President for Academic Affairs, Ms. Marinelle Trongco, Lagangilang Municipal Agriculturist, 4th Year Students of BSA and BAT major in Animal Science/Production and members of the Society of Animal Science cum Rodeo Club (SAS-RC), and representatives of the different Farmer Organizations of the different barangays of Lagangilang.
Following the MOA Signing, a comprehensive series of lecture were conducted by Ms. Lizly B. Tuba-ang, DVM, on swine management, Mr. Jumarh B. Zales, DVM, on goat management, and Dr. Jordan D. Bayudang on Quarantine Roles and Regulation. The main goal of the lecture series is to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among professionals and poultry and livestock raisers in the veterinary and technical fields.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Talugay G. Patagao expressed her gratitude to all participants for contributing to the success of the seminar.
