ASIST recently engaged in a transformative Basic Museum Training, led by experts from Museo Kordilyera (MK) and the College of Social Sciences of UP Baguio. Held on June 4-5, 2024, this two-day program brought together ASIST students, social sciences faculty, and planning unit members to explore museum curation and management.
This activity stems from the collaboration between ASIST and UP Baguio, established through a Memorandum of Agreement on May 25, 2025. The partnership aims to enhance both institutions' core mandates of instruction, research, extension, and resource generation through co-teaching, collaborative research, training, and expertise-sharing.
The training equipped participants with fundamental museum practices, covering exhibit conceptualization, conservation techniques, and collection cataloguing. Day one featured Prof. Tala S. Ramos introducing museum conceptualization, followed by MK staff members Mr. Aldous F. Rubio and Mr. Clifford E. Gregorio leading workshops on conservation methods and cataloguing.
On day two, Prof. Victoria C. Diaz guided participants through exhibit conceptualization, while Prof. Jennifer C. Josef shared insights on museum management. The event concluded with a workshop where participants conceptualized their own museum and inaugural exhibit.
This initiative represents a significant step for ASIST in exploring the potential establishment of its own museum. It enhances the institute's role in preserving local heritage and scientific achievements while fostering appreciation for cultural preservation among its academic community.
The training has laid a strong foundation for future museum-related endeavors at ASIST, simultaneously strengthening collaborative ties with UP Baguio. This partnership exemplifies how institutions can work together to advance academic excellence and community engagement, creating opportunities for shared learning and cultural preservation in the process.
