The Engineering Department of the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST), in collaboration with its Extension and Training Services Office, recently showcased its expertise by assisting the Philippine Red Cross Abra Chapter in designing and planning a three-story building. The project, presented on October 17, 2024, at the ASIST Bangued Campus, highlighted the department’s commitment to community service and innovation. This initiative underscores ASIST's dedication to sustainable development and disaster resilience, particularly in addressing the needs of health services and emergency preparedness in Abra.

The proposed building design, spanning 289 square meters, will house essential facilities such as a satellite office, a Health Services Learning Facility, and an Emergency Medical Services NC II Learning Facility. These facilities aim to enhance Red Cross operations, foster skill development, and provide training resources to empower the local workforce in handling emergencies effectively. The project aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 9 (Innovation and Infrastructure) and SDG 11 (Sustainable Communities), emphasizing sustainable development for resilient communities.

The detailed plans, meticulously crafted by ASIST’s team of experts, included architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing designs. Presentations during the event featured 3D renderings, site development plans, and technical layouts of the proposed building. Resource persons such as Ar. Janus Mauri Reyes, Engr. Rainier Mark Alcos, Engr. Maria Eden Pizarro, and Engr. Peejay Maguelang elaborated on their respective contributions, ensuring the design’s safety, efficiency, and functionality. The program of work, presented by Engr. Eucensio Carbonilla, offered a comprehensive cost estimate of materials and labor, ensuring transparency and feasibility.

Key participants, including Philippine Red Cross representatives, expressed their gratitude and appreciation for ASIST’s commitment and technical expertise. Jennifer Bernal, the Chapter Administrator OIC, lauded the engineering department for its detailed and professional designs, emphasizing their significance in enhancing Red Cross services in Abra. The program concluded with a message of gratitude from Red Cross BOD Member Rodolfo De La Paz, who acknowledged the valuable partnership between ASIST and the Philippine Red Cross.

In recognition of their efforts, ASIST Engineering Department and its resource persons received Certificates of Appreciation and Recognition from the Philippine Red Cross Abra Chapter. This project not only strengthens the bond between ASIST and the community but also serves as a testament to the institution's role in driving innovation, fostering partnerships, and providing meaningful contributions to society.
