The Solar-Powered Drinking Station Extension Program was launched on September 28, 2024 by the Engineering Department of the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) in collaboration with its Extension and Training Services Office. taking place in Brgy. San Gregorio Elementary School (SGES). The program's goal was to provide clean and sustainable water access to the people of San Gregorio, La Paz, and Abra. This creative project, in which fifty locals took part, is in line with the Philippines' Ambisyon Natin 2040 vision and the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN, especially SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

Four in-depth lessons were included in the curriculum to equip participants with the information and abilities needed to run and maintain the solar-powered drinking station. The system's features and advantages, as well as its principal parts and building process, operating methods, and maintenance procedures, were among the subjects discussed. To guarantee that participants could use the technology efficiently, the workshops were guided by faculty members from ASIST's Mechanical Engineering Program and included lecture-discussions, demonstrations, and practical exercises.

The advantages of solar technology in lowering operating costs and fostering environmental sustainability were also covered in the training sessions. The system's effective use of solar energy to provide community members with clean drinking water while reducing its environmental impact was explained to the participants. The Solar Grid-Tie System Powered Drinking Station's researchers were commended for their commitment to meeting the area's urgent water requirements.

Both the local community and the participants responded well to the program. The principal of SGES, Mr. Cayetano Barcena, thanked the ASIST Engineering Department for the training and the drinking station, highlighting its importance in improving the school and barangay's access to clean drinking water. Representatives from the community agreed with him, pointing out the project's obvious advantages for neighbors, teachers, and kids.

To wrap up the program, Engr. Rodel Tamayo expressed his sincere gratitude to the staff, school administration, and barangay leaders for their cooperation and support. ASIST's dedication to promoting sustainable development and providing workable solutions to raise the standard of living in Abra is demonstrated by the Solar-Powered Drinking Station Extension Program.
