As part of the ongoing efforts of the Cordillera Administrative Region Association of State Universities and Colleges (CARASUC) to secure continued support for the third-year implementation of its regional bamboo initiative, a major milestone was accomplished on April 3, 2025, through the successful presentation and submission of the CARASUC Regional Bamboo Project 2026 at the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Central Office, Manila.
Representing the Abra State Institute of Science and Technology (ASIST), and on behalf of ASIST President and Bamboo Project Leader, @Gregorio T. Turqueza Jr., the delegation was led by Dr. @Nero M. Paderes, Director of AFTIICC. Joined by Bamboo Project Staff Mary Rose O. Casigay and Melinda S. Redona, in collaboration with fellow CAR-SUCs project leaders, to present the refined proposal entitled “Bamboo Industry Development for Environment Conservation and Countryside Post-COVID Economic Boom.”
The meeting with DBM Undersecretary Wilford Wong focused on the strategic direction of the regional program and its alignment with national priorities in environmental sustainability, rural innovation, and inclusive economic development. Usec Wong welcomed the presentation and lauded the CAR-SUCs' collaborative approach in maximizing the potential of the bamboo industry for ecological protection and community empowerment.
Following this, the team also had the opportunity to pay a courtesy call to DBM Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, who reaffirmed her support for regional and research-driven development initiatives. She praised the proactive leadership of the CAR-SUCs and encouraged the continuation of impactful programs that address both environmental and socio-economic concerns.
The ASIST delegation proudly showcased project outputs as tokens, alongside the formal submission of the proposal for the 2026 funding cycle. In doing so, the ASIST Bamboo Project Team emphasized their commitment to further expanding their initiatives in the local communities, particularly in supporting solo parents and persons with disabilities, showcasing the concrete and inclusive outcomes of the project on the ground.
This important engagement was made possible through the steadfast support of ASIST President, Gregorio T. Turqueza Jr., whose leadership continues to inspire the institution’s active involvement in regional collaborations. The team also extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Noel B. Begnalen, Vice President for Academic Affairs, for his consistent guidance and encouragement, and to the ASIST Administrative Staff, whose invaluable assistance and coordination were instrumental in ensuring the success of the delegation’s participation in this vital activity.
The successful presentation and submission of the CARASUC Regional Bamboo Project 2026 reflect the unwavering commitment of CAR-SUCs to sustainable innovation and inclusive development.
