The ASIST Agriculture and Food Technology Innovation Incubation and Commercialization Center (AFTIICC) successfully hosted a Capacity Development Training on Utility Model and Patent Crafting last August 27-29, 2025.
The training was facilitated by Engr. Emmanuel M. Mendoza, Intellectual Property Rights Specialist V of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), who shared his expertise on the fundamentals of intellectual property, prior art search, and the drafting of patent and utility model applications.
The participants were ASIST faculty members with patentable researches, making the training highly relevant in strengthening the university’s commitment to protecting innovations generated by its researchers.
This initiative is part of the Center’s mandate to safeguard intellectual property (IP) and pave the way for possible commercialization and technology transfer of ASIST-developed technologies—ensuring that research outputs go beyond academic contributions and benefit the community and industry.
AFTIICC extends its heartfelt gratitude to ASIST President Dr. Gregorio T. Turqueza Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Noel B. Begnalen, and Center Director Dr. Nero M. Paderes for their unwavering support and guidance in advancing ASIST’s innovation and intellectual property initiatives.
By empowering innovators with IP knowledge, the AFTIICC continues to uphold its mission of fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and sustainable development in Abra and beyond.
