BAGUIO CITY – The University of Abra (UA) has officially entered a new era of collaboration for the benefit of its students, graduates, and the wider community, following the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on September 16, 2025.

The ceremonial signing, held at the Venus Parkview Hotel in Baguio City, was attended by key officials from various institutions from the Cordillera Administrative Region and DOLE Central, including UA President, Dr. Gregorio T. Turqueza Jr. The agreement focuses on three crucial areas: capacity development, Job Placement Office (JPO) accreditation, and awards and recognition.

This partnership, which establishes a formal UA-Job Placement Office (UA-JPO), is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment.

This collaboration is poised to create a significant positive impact on the University of Abra and its stakeholders. Students will gain improved access to job opportunities and professional guidance, enhancing their employability upon graduation. The university itself will benefit from the accreditation of its JPO, which validates its commitment to student success beyond the classroom. For the local community, the UA-JPO will serve as a vital link, connecting a skilled workforce with employers and contributing to local economic growth. The emphasis on curriculum enhancement will also ensure that future graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed by the labor market, thereby reducing the problem of job-skills mismatch.

The MOA signing is a significant step towards achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. By promoting full and productive employment, ensuring access to quality employment services, and improving the alignment between educational outputs and labor market needs, this partnership directly contributes to creating a more inclusive and sustainable economy. The focus on developing relevant skills and fostering entrepreneurship further reinforces the commitment to a brighter and more prosperous future for the people of Abra.
