In celebration of National Arts Month 2026 with the theme "Ani ng Sining: Katotohanan at Giting," students of the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) Main Campus La Paz Extension actively engaged in meaningful Art Appreciation activities that highlighted the power of art as a tool for truth, advocacy, and cultural preservation.

As part of their Art Appreciation course, BS Criminology students participated in a Photo Essay Exhibit held from February 23–27, 2026, which featured visual documentations of authentic Abrenian life. Through photography, students captured the courage and resilience embedded in the province's cultural identity — from the intricate Abel weaving of La Paz and the Cacao tablea of Bucay, to the walis tambo craft of Tineg and traditional delicacies such as Cascaron and Binagkal. The exhibit served as a living visual archive, ensuring that local narratives are preserved, valued, and shared within and beyond the community.

The students also participated in "LIKAS at BATAS: From Creativity to Environmental Responsibility," where they created artworks using dried leaves, twigs, seeds, and recycled materials. Their outputs depicted Philippine endemic fauna and justice-related themes including wildlife trafficking, illegal logging, and ecological accountability. Each artwork was accompanied by student reflections connecting artistic expression with environmental law and criminal justice principles.

Both activities collectively support SDG 4 (Quality Education), by promoting transformative and interdisciplinary learning; SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), by safeguarding Abrenian cultural heritage; SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), by raising environmental awareness; and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), by cultivating accountability among future professionals.

Through these initiatives, ASIST reaffirms that art is not merely an expression — it is a catalyst for education, justice, and nation-building. Source: Ms. Koujeenia Joseane B. Galcon, Dr. Lei Xandra mei B. Balmaceda - CASS-LSSMNS La Paz Extension
