In pursuit of its vision as a premiere college in the Cordillera Administrative Region and its effort to become a state university in Abra, ASIST collected another feather in the cap as five researches were presented recently in three international conferences. Among them, one won the Best Research Paper Award, another was a contender as finalist in the Social Science category, and the three shall be published in a Scopus-indexed journal.
Prof. Rebecca B. Talledo from the College of Teacher Education achieved the Best Research Paper award for presenting the paper “Digital Literacy Skills of the Senior High School Students” during the 1st International Conference and Workshop on Technology and Strategic Classroom and Research Innovations held at BSA Twin Towers, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City on October 16-18, 2018.
Meanwhile, three faculty members from the Information and Communications Technology Department under the College of Arts and Sciences, presented three researches during the International Conference on Information Technology and Digital Applications (ICITDA) 2018 held at the Heritage Hotel Manila on November 8-9, 2018. Prof. Excel Philip B. Guidang presented the paper “Classifying Soil Texture Images using Transfer Learning” while Prof. Christopher John R. Llanda presented the paper “Assessment of the Effectiveness of Learning Theories using Gamified Android App in Teaching C Programming” with Ms. Janelyn A. Talingdan as his co-author. Lastly, Mr. Joventino T. Trinidad Jr. presented the paper “Ensuring Learning Gain using WebEditor: An Experiential Learning Approach” with Prof. Excel Philip B. Guidang as his co-author. All three researches shall be published in the IOP Conference Series: Materials Science Engineering, a Scopus-indexed journal.
Finally, Dr. Pablo B. Bose Jr., the Research Director, was a finalist in the Social Science category for presenting the paper “Geometric Transformations of the Loom Woven Cloth of Abra” with Prof. Digna T. Bose and Prof. Rebecca B. Talledo as his co-authors, during the Asia Pacific Consortium of Researchers and Educators’ International Conference 2018 held at Westin Resort, Guam, USA on October 31 to November 3, 2018.
These achievements highlight the capabilities of the ASIST Faculty members, not just in the area of Instruction but also in the area of research. Moreover, it highlights the making of ASIST to becoming the first university in the Province of Abra.
