August 2022 ─ The Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology (ASIST) conducted a financial literacy-education to the unbanked six municipalities of Abra of the 1,553 farmers from Danglas, Lagayan, Langiden, Malibcong, Peñarubia, and Pilar with the project “Farmers Financial Literacy-Education Towards Sustainable Economic Growth in Abra”.
These beneficiaries were chosen and identified by the LANDBANK Countryside Development Foundation Inc. (LCDFI) which were considered as the lowest number of people with bank accounts/savings in the Land Bank of the Philippines. The LCDFI, a non-stock, non-profit corporate foundation, was a partner corporation in fulfilling this program where a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was made by both institutions.
Prior to the conduct of the training, there was an establishment of Memorandum of Agreement with the municipal mayors of the six unbanked municipalities. In the provision of each MOA, the responsibilities of each municipality were considered, especially in the counter parting of responsibilities.
The program aims to empower the farmers to be financially stable and make wise decisions that would contribute to their agricultural developments. Hence, the fulfilment of this initiative was made possible through the efforts of Dr. Zarina Mariannette Orejudos, Director of Extension and Training Services, with the support of Dr. Gregorio T. Turqueza Jr., University President.
